석면피해구제제도란
석면으로 인한 건강피해자 및 유족에게 신속하고 공정하게 구제급여를 지급하고 석면질병이 발병할 가능성이 높은 자에 대한 건강피해 예방·관리 사업을 목적으로 하는 석면피해구제법(2010년 3월 22일 공포)에 근거하여

석면피해구제제도의 의의
근로자의 경우 「산업재해보상보험법」에 따라 산재 보상을 받을 수 있지만, 석면광산 또는 석면공장 주변에 거주하는 주민들을 비롯한 환경성 석면 노출로 인한 건강 피해자는 구체적인 원인자를 규명하기 어려워 마땅한 보상과 지원을 받지 못하고 있어, 이에 석면으로 인한 건강피해를 입었으나, 마땅한 보상을 받지 못하는 자를 구제하기 위하여 석면피해자들에게 보상과 사후관리, 진단 및 치료 등의 의료서비스를 지원하는 제도
